Home Blog How Do We Choose the Teams We Support?

Ciaran Murphy has a really interesting article in the Irish Times on January 8th headed “Geography should decide who you follow in GAA but it is never as simple as that”. We’ll point you in the direction of the article below rather than discuss it here but it did make us think about how and why we do support our chosen teams and or follow particular sports. As a result we thought we’d like to hear from others too and this writer will stick to just one sport and start off with why their house supports the following soccer teams.

BOHEMIANS because a granddad played with them and as it was a long time ago and he was also playing GAA, we suspect it was under a false name.

LIVERPOOL: we inherited it from our families.

SUNDERLAND: a grandfather did and another family member was at the 1973 FA Cup final in which Sunderland (Div 2) at the time beat Leeds (Div 1) 1 nil.

ARSENAL: we lived near Highbury once.

WIGAN, EFL League 1 (Div 3): Young Dara Costello from Limerick is in their squad and as a youngster he holidayed in Connemara, where members of the household did too.

SUTTON UNITED, National League (Div 5): we also lived here.

FROSINONE (Italian Serie B): A sister lives there.

LORIENT (French Ligue 1): someone in the house once went to a festival here.

So feel free to comment and reply with your perhaps eclectic selections.
