DLR Leisure operates and manages 4 leisure facilities; 1 Golf Club and 2 Sports Pitches on behalf of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. The 4 centres are:

PART TIME LEVEL 2 SWIMMING TEACHER

JOB PURPOSE

To deliver high quality, professional swimming coaching, teaching and instruction and to maintain associated records.  The instructor has the responsibility for:-

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver effective swimming lessons and instruction programmes
  • The conduct and safety of the class whilst on the pool surround or in the water.  This includes specific rules that apply to the centres pools.
  • Fully understand and implement bather load capacity.
  • Supervising Level 1 Teachers where applicable.
  • Completes pool chemical tests and report results to Centre Manager/Duty Manager/Leisure Supervisor
  • Actively promote dlr Leisure Services to ensure classes are filled to an optimum level.
  • Operating to dlr Leisure Services Limited’s values in providing and promoting a high quality service.
  • Observing safe working practices to ensure the safety of all staff, customers, users and visitors.
  • Ensuring swimming lessons and all pool activities and sessions start and finish at the correct time.
  • Keeping qualifications current and up to date, to the required standard, through Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Effective Communication with all members of staff and external customers and visitors.
  • Reporting any defective equipment or essential maintenance in accordance with operational procedures.
  • Strictly adhering to all policies relating to Health and Safety, Operational Procedures, and all policies and procedures contained in the Employee Handbook
  • Adhering to the direct instruction of the Leisure Centres Management Team in order to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Centre.
  • To deliver a pleasant and prompt service to customers, and in particular demonstrating a commitment to customer care and equal rights in their service delivery, in accordance with the policies of dlr Leisure Services Limited in performance of their duties.
  • To ensure that procedures relating to lost property, opening hours, duty rosters and other such matters are strictly observed.
  • To produce swimming lesson plans outlining skills progression and the review and assessment per term on each participant.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIRMENTS

  • At least 2 year’s experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • CPR Certified
  • Current certification as a Lifeguard by a recognized source of training – RLSS OR IWS
  • Current certification as Full Swimming Teacher Level 2 by a recognized source of training – IWS or Swim Ireland

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the centre.
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

PART TIME LIFEGUARD / ASSISTANT SWIMMING TEACHER (Level 1)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains constant surveillance of customers in the swimming pools; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of customers in the event of emergency.  Fully understand and implement bather load capacity.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe centre.
  • Completes pool chemical tests and report results to Centre Manager/Duty Manager/Leisure Supervisor
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
  • To produce swimming lesson plans outlining skills progression and the review and assessment per term on each participant.
  • To assist in the delivery of high quality, professional swimming teaching and instruction and to maintain associated records.
  • You are responsible for the conduct and safety of the class whilst on the pool surround or in the water.
  • To strictly adhere to all policies relating to health & safety, environmental management, operational standards, equality of opportunity, customer care, welfare and discipline.
  • Demonstrate willingness to achieve the highest standards of service.  Advise, motivate and establish a rapport with all customers.
  • Operating to dlr Leisure’s values in providing and promoting a high quality service.
  • Ensuring all swimming lessons and open swims start and finish at the correct time.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Current certification as an assistant teacher, Level 1 by a recognized source of training – IWS or Swim Ireland

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard / Assistant Swimming Teacher ensures the safety of all customers of dlr Leisure by preventing and responding to emergencies and delivering all swimming lessons in a timely safe manner.
